Position Overview:  As a Human Resource Generalist at, you will play a pivotal role in managing various aspects of human resources to support the organization’s mission and goals. You will be responsible for a wide range of HR functions, including but not limited to recruitment, payroll management, employee relations, performance management, and training coordination.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of the Human Resource Information System (Payworks).
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment processes: This includes creating job posts, conducting initial screens, arranging panel interviews with hiring managers, conducting reference checks, sending out offers to select candidates, and orienting new hires.
  • Collaborate with the Agency accountant to set up biweekly payroll and act as backup for payroll in the absence of the accountant.
  • Manage employee relations to drive forward the culture of the organization. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution. Conduct investigations into employee complaints and grievances, providing fair and timely resolutions.
  • Implement strategies to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention. Organize employee recognition programs, events, and initiatives to foster a positive work culture.
  • Proactively implement the performance management system including goal setting, performance reviews, and coaching. Monitor performance metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement an annual training calendar to foster a culture of learning and development by coordinating training sessions and workshops.
  • Ensure all employee files are up-to-date and current. Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits. Educate employees on available benefits and facilitate enrollment processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations. Stay updated on relevant legislation and industry best practices.

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a fast-paced work environment. Experience in the non-profit sector or a settlement agency is an asset.
  • A degree or certificate in Human Resources. A HR designation or working towards a designation is an asset.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality while developing effective relationships within the organization.
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities.
  • Understanding of Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism Frameworks is considered an Asset.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills and aptitude for working effectively and sensitively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Comfort with technology and communication platforms.
  • Understanding and strict adherence to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Comfort with facilitation, giving presentations and excellent public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of community services, immigration, settlement sector and the public education system is considered an Asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be asked to provide:
    • A successful Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check.
    • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada.

 

Job Location:  The CCSYR Head office at 21 Dunlop Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario.
