When I came to Canada last summer for a brief visit, I found hope to rebuild my life! Eventually, I decided to remain here with my four-year-old son to escape the domestic violence I suffered in Iran. I wanted to live a life of freedom and peace. I also want to lead by example and encourage hundreds of other women struggling with similar abuse in my home country. Restarting a life as a single mother while being a newcomer was a challenging and lonely journey. I benefitted immensely from the settlement services at CCSYR. I was equally touched by the empathetic response of Anahita Sasani, the settlement staff I worked with.

She understood my perspective and took a personal approach to dealing with my issues. Considering my knack for painting, she connected me with a charity that promotes Iranian arts and culture. Even now, just a simple chat with Anahita and the other staff at CCSYR is a stress-buster!
