Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Settlement Worker for Catholic Community Services of York Region (CCSYR) that provides a variety of settlement supports and serving a multicultural community in York Region. Under the supervision of the Orientation Program Manager, the Settlement Worker will facilitate the transition to living in York Region primarily for recently arrived newcomers. Strong preference will be given to candidates who can display a solid understanding and knowledge about topics important to the newcomer community so to best understand their needs and rights to provide and connect them with appropriate services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Intake, assessing and creating action plans for clients
• Providing information and referral services, interpretation, case management
• Promoting, developing and delivering settlement supports through information sessions, groups, and workshops on a variety of settlement issues including newcomer settlement, multicultural events, and educational activities
• Maintaining files and keeping information current
• Computer proficiency; working on a system wide database
• Working collaboratively with agencies and service providers through outreach and promotional activities
• Preparing monthly progress reports and ensuring target goals are met
• Attending team meetings, general staff meetings, supervision and agency activities

Qualifications:

• University Degree or College Diploma in Social Science or related field
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in the settlement and integration field
• Strong ability to write and speak in English, Ukrainian and/or Russian
• Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting newcomers
• Experience in presentation research and delivery
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and other relevant computer programs
• Experience working with newcomers, multi-lingual and multi-racial communities
• Excellent administrative, writing, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility with hours and location of work (may work occasional weekends and evenings)
• Use of a reliable vehicle for travel within York Region is an asset

Job Type: Full-time Contract until 31 March 2023 with possible renewal
